I’m back again!

Howdy all! I’m back again, and mostly caught up with everything. No plans to go anywhere until Thanksgiving, whew. So much to tell you about the last two weeks — they’ve been super crazy busy but still fun.

I thought I’d start catching up with the day before I left for Memory Trends — it was held in Las Vegas — that way you’d appreciate the culture shock — ha!

The day before MT, Jason and I led a field trip at the Burleson Prairie near Temple, TX. It’s a little over an hour north of Austin — the last bits of road are out in the boonies. About 60 people showed up from all around the area for the trip — wow, a great turnout.

Bob and Mickey Burleson have been working on their restored prairie for over 30 years now. It is quite a sight to see, even with a year like we’ve had — record number of days over 100 F, and only 13 inches of rain!

That yellow flower is Maximillion Sunflower. It’s a perennial sunflower that can get rowdy in a garden situation, but so pretty it’s worth it! The stalks can get to 12 feet tall to give you an idea of the scale. We have some in our prairie garden, I usually cut it way back in May so that it doesn’t get too big.
We trompped around the prairie for 3 hours or so — the group split up into smaller groups with Bob, Jason, and I pointing out neat plants, birds, butterflies and more.

Then when I got home I went for one last bike ride before finishing up packing for Memory Trends — see tomorrow’s post for pictures from Vegas!

  1. I’m glad you are back and can’t wait to see pictures.

  2. Hey these are pretty pics! Have you been riding much lately ? It’s cold but cold weather means longer rides right ?
